Test my French

Terms

Terms of use and sale

Version 2026-10-28. Also available in French (switch above); if the two versions ever differ, the French one applies.

In short. Test my French is a practice tool to help you prepare. It is not an official exam, not legal or immigration advice, and it does not guarantee any result: how you do in an official exam depends on you, on the exam itself and on the authorities, not on us. The rules, levels, exemptions and official questions are set by the French authorities and can change at any time. Before you act, always check the official sources and your préfecture. If anything here differs from an official source, the official source is right.

2. What the Service is

A practice tool to help you prepare for French language tests such as the TCF IRN and for the civic exam. It is not an official exam, not a certified course, and not legal or immigration advice. It is not affiliated with the Ministry of the Interior, France Éducation International, the CCI Paris Île-de-France or any préfecture.

The questions of the official exams are chosen by the authorities and the exam bodies. Apart from the official list of civic knowledge questions published by the Ministry of the Interior, the real exam questions (including the civic situation questions and the language test items) are not published. Our situation questions, language questions, mock exams and explanations are original practice material written to reflect the official format and study material; they are not the questions you will get on the day.

3. Official sources prevail

Residence and nationality conditions, required levels, exemptions, exam formats, official question lists, fees and procedures are set by the French authorities and can change at any time, sometimes without notice. Before taking any step you must check the official sources and your préfecture. If the Service and an official source differ, the official source prevails. Links to official and other third-party sites are given for convenience; we are not responsible for their content or availability. Useful official sources:

4. Accuracy and updates

We check content against official sources. When the authorities publish a new rule or a new official question list, we aim to update the content concerned within 30 days of its publication. Until then, the official source prevails (section 3). If content is not updated, or if content is wrong, you have the remedies of the legal guarantee of conformity (section 10). You can report a mistake with “Report a mistake” or by email.

5. No guaranteed outcome

Scores, levels and readiness indicators are indicative estimates from practice. Doing well here does not guarantee passing an official exam, and a low score does not mean you will fail. We do not guarantee exam results, residence permits or nationality, or any timing or decision by the authorities or exam centres.

Our commitment is to provide the practice content described in these terms with care (an obligation of means, “obligation de moyens”); we do not commit to any result (“obligation de résultat”). Your result in an official exam depends on things outside our control: your own level and preparation, the questions drawn on the day, the exam conditions, and the decisions of the examiners and authorities. You alone decide when you are ready, when to book an exam and whether and when to apply. Exam, application, translation and travel fees you pay to third parties are not part of our contract.

6. Who can use the Service, and your obligations

The Service is for people aged 15 and over; a purchase by a minor needs a parent's agreement.

  • check the official sources before you act;
  • use your own judgement: the Service gives general practice and information, not advice on your personal situation; for that, ask your préfecture or a qualified professional;
  • use the Service for yourself, without copying, scraping or reselling it, and without sharing your account;
  • keep your sign-in details private and give accurate information.

We may suspend an account used in breach of these rules, after inviting the user to explain, except in an emergency.

7. Technical requirements

You need a recent web browser, an internet connection, and sound (speakers or headphones) for the listening exercises. Without an account, your progress stays in the browser you used.

8. The passes: content, price and payment

Free: the diagnostic, the language practice and a 10-question civic mini mock for each list. Two passes add to that:

  • Civic pass, €12: the civic module (the official questions for naturalisation, the 10-year resident card and the multi-year card, with explanations and sources), 40-question civic mock exams and the readiness score.
  • Full access, €24: everything in the Civic pass, plus the full language mock exams.

Each pass: one payment, 12 months, no subscription. VAT not applicable, art. 293 B of the CGI. Access starts as soon as payment is confirmed and ends automatically after 12 months. It does not renew. If you hold an active Civic pass, you can move to Full access for €12, the difference between the two prices; Full access then runs 12 months from that purchase.

Payment is by card through Stripe, our payment provider; we never see your card details. For each purchase you receive an invoice by email, and an order confirmation that restates your choices (section 9).

9. How to buy, the right of withdrawal, and our 14-day refund

Before you pay, you see what each pass includes, its price and duration, and these terms. At checkout there are two separate boxes, neither ticked in advance:

  1. one to accept these terms;
  2. one to ask for immediate access and acknowledge that you thereby lose your 14-day right of withdrawal (Code de la consommation, L221-28 13°).

You cannot buy without ticking both. We record your choices, their date and the version of the terms you accepted, and confirm them by email with your order.

Voluntary 14-day refund, no questions asked. Even though you give up the legal right of withdrawal by asking for access to start immediately, Test my French offers a voluntary refund: within 14 days of your purchase you can ask for a refund of the full price you paid for it, with no reason needed, by email to support@testmyfrench.com. We refund to the original payment method, and your access ends when the refund is made. This commercial promise is in addition to your legal rights; it does not replace the legal guarantee of conformity (section 10).

10. Legal guarantee of conformity

Each pass is digital content supplied continuously for 12 months. As a consumer, you benefit from the legal guarantee of conformity for the whole access period, including the updates we provide (Code de la consommation, L224-25-12 and following; Directive (EU) 2019/770, art. 11(3)). If something does not conform, tell us: we bring it into conformity free of charge within a reasonable time. If we cannot or do not, or if the defect is serious, you can get a price reduction or end the contract and get a refund. During the access period, it is for us to show that the content conforms.

11. Changes to the Service

We change the Service only for a valid reason, for example a change in the official rules or question lists, a correction, or an improvement. A change costs you nothing extra and we tell you about it clearly. If a change has more than a minor negative impact on your use of a pass, we tell you in advance by email, and you may end the contract free of charge within 30 days of that email (or of the change, if later) and get a refund for the remaining access period, pro rata (Directive (EU) 2019/770, art. 19).

12. Availability

The Service runs continuously except for maintenance, provider outages or force majeure. We keep planned maintenance short.

13. Liability

We are responsible for the proper performance of the contract, including the parts carried out by our providers (Code de la consommation, L221-15). We are not liable where a failure is due to the user, to the unforeseeable and insurmountable act of a third party, or to force majeure. We are not responsible for decisions of préfectures, other authorities or exam centres, or for official exam results. As the law provides (Civil Code, articles 1231-3 and 1231-4), we are liable only for damage that was foreseeable when the contract was made and that is an immediate and direct consequence of a failure on our part, except in case of gross negligence or wilful misconduct. Failing or having to retake an official exam, the fees paid for it or for an application, and a delay or refusal of a residence permit or of nationality result from your own performance and from decisions of third parties; they are not a direct consequence of using a practice aid. If content is wrong or out of date, your remedies are those of the legal guarantee of conformity (section 10) and our 14-day refund (section 9). For business users, our total liability is limited to the amounts paid in the previous 12 months. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a liability that consumer law does not allow to be excluded or limited.

14. Intellectual property

The official knowledge questions are published by the Ministry of the Interior (DGEF) under the Licence Ouverte / etalab-2.0. The suggested answers, explanations, situation questions, language questions, recordings, texts and illustrations belong to the publisher; copying or extracting them without written permission is not allowed.

15. Personal data

How we handle personal data is set out in the privacy policy.

16. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, in particular to follow changes in the official rules. The terms accepted at purchase apply for your access period. We tell account holders about any material change by email.

17. Complaints, mediation and applicable law

Send any complaint by email to support@testmyfrench.com (or call 07 44 42 22 22). We reply within 7 days. If a disagreement remains, consumers may, after first sending us a written complaint, refer the dispute free of charge to our consumer mediator: CM2C (Centre de la Médiation de la Consommation de Conciliateurs de Justice), 49 rue de Ponthieu, 75008 Paris, www.cm2c.net, online form at https://www.cm2c.net/declarer-un-litige.php. These terms are governed by French law; this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where a consumer lives. Consumers may bring a claim before the courts where they live.
